How To Prepare For Your Engagement Session

You’ve chosen your life partner, a venue, and picked out a photographer that is going to capture your love story! Nowwww its time to turn to the fun stuff – your engagement session and how to prepare for it! All my wedding day packages that I offer are customizable to fit your needs but chances are, your package includes an engagement session. This allows for a time where you can get to know me as a photographer as well as it truly sets the tone for how amazing your wedding day will go! 

Through our time together I will be able to learn about you and your partner’s relationship as well as know the go to poses for what brings out your most authentic selves for your wedding day. I know there are so many steps for planning a wedding but as your wedding photographer I am here to help you plan along the way and it starts with your engagement session!

1. Pick a location

Let’s talk about where you want to get your engagement photos taken. I absolutely LOVE when couples pick out a spot that is meaningful to them and their relationship because it allows the session to tell their story. For every engagement session that I start to plan I send a location prep guide that has example galleries from places that I have photographed at before. This gives such a great example of what to expect at your engagement session if you were to do it at one of the recommended locations!

2. Pick your outfits

All couples who have an engagement session with me also get a unique style guide. This guide helps you learn the ins and outs of what to wear and what not to wear for your session. The most important thing to consider when picking out your outfits is to wear something that is YOU! Don’t look back on your photos and see your outfit but not recognize the person in the photos! Another tip is to wear something that is comfy! Don’t get me wrong, please don’t show up in your pajamas ready for a movie and popcorn, but also don’t wear something that is going to be itchy out of your mind or just not practical. 

Pro Tip: Soon to be brides usually choose at least one white outfit! 🙂

3. What do you want to include in your session?

This is one where you can have a little bit of fun! Make your engagement session meaningful to you and your partner’s relationship. If you guys love going on picnics and spending time outside together then pack a picnic basket and turn it into a little date for you guys. If you loveeeee beer, then lets crack a couple cold ones and make some memories! It can be anything that brings your relationship to life! My goal as your wedding photographer is to bring you back to the moment you fell in love and I will do that by telling your love story!
